The findings of a survey released yesterday show that 62 percent of the respondents working in the city’s various service sectors said that they had not participated in any job training over the past 12 months.
The survey was jointly carried out by the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (commonly known as Gung Luen in Cantonese) and the Macau Service Sector Employees’ Association earlier this year. A press conference was held yesterday at the latter’s office on Rua do Campo to announce the survey’s findings. The latter is a Gung Luen affiliate.
The survey was carried out between January and May this year, during which 1,336 valid questionnaires were collected from local residents working in various service sectors.
According to yesterday’s press conference, the findings of the survey also show that 40 percent of the respondents said that there were insufficient types of courses to raise occupational skills available in the market provided by continuing education institutions in the city.
The findings also show that 34 percent of the respondents said that the quality of teachers or instructors teaching occupational courses needed to be improved.
