Black spots found on imported American capsules: Pharma bureau

The Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau (ISAF) announced in a statement yesterday that they received a report from local drugs importers about a soft capsule product imported from America that was found to have black spots on the pills.

The problematic soft capsules titled “PRENATAL VITAMIN DHA SOFTGELS” produced by “Earth’s Creation USA”, were found to have black spots on the pills. As a precautionary measure, the drug importer has voluntarily recalled the affected batch of medications that were imported into Macau.

The batch numbers are 22199 and 32149.

According to the statement, the problematic soft capsules are a prenatal multinutrient supplement, an over-the-counter medication used to provide vitamin B, calcium, magnesium, and other essential vitamins and minerals. According to the importer, the implicated batch was distributed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre, public health centres, polyclinics, and community pharmacies.

The bureau has instructed pharmacies to halt sales, while directing the importer to proceed with the recall. All medical institutions and clinics must immediately discontinue use of the affected batches. The bureau will continue investigating the product quality issue.

According to the statement, the Health Bureau (SSM) had stopped issuing the problematic soft capsules to the public, residents in possession of the affected batches of the aforementioned mediation may visit designated health centres or contracted pharmacy to arrange for a replacement.
