Macau’s gaming sector had 52,898 fulltime employees in the second quarter of the year, a year-on-year increase of 0.7 percent, or 380 employees, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced in a statement yesterday.
The gaming sector fulltime staff accounted for 14.2 percent of Macau’s total employment in the second quarter, according to DSEC figures.
The bureau said that the gaming sector’s second-quarter increase in employees was mainly due to the hiring of local directors and managers.
The sector’s fulltime employees’ average earnings (excluding irregular remunerations) stood at 27,390 patacas in June, up by 2.4 percent year-on-year, according to the statement.
At the end of the second quarter, the sector reported 208 job vacancies. In terms of recruitment prerequisites, 46.2 percent of the vacancies required work experience, while 74.1 percent required just a senior high-school or lower education level, the bureau said.
The bureau noted that its survey on manpower needs and wages of the gaming sector does not include junket promoters and others working with them.
In the first seven months of the year, Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) amounted to 140.89 billion patacas, up by 6.5 percent year-on-year, according to Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) data.
