The government plans to discuss the feasibility of imposing fines on the city’s utility companies for repetitive roadworks, Northern District Social Services Consultative Committee member Cheong Ka Man said yesterday.

Cheong made the remarks when briefing reporters after a closed-door meeting of the committee at the Government Service Centre in Areia Preta. Cheong said an official of the Transport Bureau (DSAT), who attended the meeting, announced the plan.

According to Cheong, the government plans to charge fines for repetitive roadwork projects so as to prevent the city’s roads from being dug up and closed up like a “zip”.
