Hong Kong indie band “Before the Night Ends” (BTNE) made their inaugural performance in Macau a memorable one, delivering an intimate and captivating set at “Bookand Macau” on Rua de Inácio Baptista (鵝眉街) last Saturday.
The night began on a dreamy note as the five-person band kicked off the concert with their song “Short Vacation,” immediately enveloping the audience in their signature Dream Pop sound. The show was filled with the energy that defines the band, which comprises vocalist Leung Chi (梁子), keyboardist Jeff, guitarist Kim, bassist Kuma, and drummer Kin.
The setlist was a comprehensive treat for dedicated fans, spanning the band’s entire discography. The performance included popular anthems like “輕不著地” and “保持浪費”, their latest release “Paper Love,” and even rare live performances of songs such as “合成獸一號”. The concert was made even more special with the performance of two unreleased tracks and covers of “Seasons” by South Korean indie rock band Wave to Earth and Radiohead’s “Creep”, both of which were done in the band’s signature sound and style.
The band’s connection with the audience was palpable throughout the night. After hearing a fan’s request, vocalist Leung Chi agreed to close the show with the beloved track “A Melting Christmas.” This spontaneous decision ended the evening on a warm, communal note, cementing the success of the band’s first performance in Macau and leaving the audience hopeful of a swift return.
