The major owner of the dilapidated Capitol Theatre Commercial Building in Rua de Pedro Nolasco da Silva, William Kuan Vai Lam, told reporters yesterday that restoration of the long-defunct cinema would soon begin.
Kuan said an electricity meter was installed at the rooftop cinema yesterday. He said the cinema was expected to be reopened to the public within two months if its projectors are still functioning.
The cinema with 380 seats has been vacant since 1998, according to previous media reports.
According to Kuan, 80 percent of the building’s unit owners have agreed to co-operate in restoring the building. However, he said several owners could not yet be reached. “The owners committee will meet soon and discuss how we should handle the restoration,” said Kuan.
