The Health Bureau (SSM) announced in a statement yesterday that a 79-year-old local man with a history of chronic respiratory disease is in a serious condition after being infected with influenza.
According to the statement, the man developed fever, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties yesterday morning and sought medical treatment at the private Kiang Wu (KW) Hospital, where he was diagnosed with Influenza A complicated by pneumonia, requiring him to undergo ventilator-assisted treatment.
At the time of the statement, his condition was severe. The statement said that he was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre (CHCSJ).
According to the statement, the patient had not been vaccinated for this year’s seasonal influenza.
