The Macau Market Vendors Union will conduct a survey on the feasibility of introducing electronic payments in traditional wet markets, the group’s president, O Seng Lok, said yesterday.

O announced the survey during a press conference at the union’s office in the central district yesterday. The survey will be conducted in conjunction with local think tank Choi In Tong Sam and the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (commonly known as Gung Luen).

According to O, introducing e-payments in local wet markets is a marketing strategy to attract younger customers, in addition to e-payments being more convenient and hygienic than actual money.
