The Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) has supported Macau’s cross-border e-commerce sector and local brands in participating in the 11th Bonjour Brand Forum in Paris to boost international visibility and explore business opportunities in Europe, according to a statement from the bureau yesterday.
With DSEDT’s backing, representatives of Macau’s cross-border e-commerce industry and the Douyin Group* joined the Bonjour Brand Forum and related events held from September 24 to 26, the statement said.
The forum, which has promoted brand collaboration between China and France since 2014, gathered more than a hundred participants including business leaders, designers, and brand experts from both countries, the statement added.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Lam Hoi Kin, chief of the bureau’s External Trade and Economic Cooperation Department, highlighted how Macau’s position under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle enables it to act as a bridge between China and global markets, according to the statement. He was quoted as saying that a cooperation agreement between the Macao Live Streaming Association and Bonjour Brand earlier this year established the “China-France-Portugal Importing & Exporting Product Sourcing Centre” in Macau to enhance cross-border e-commerce exchanges, the statement added.
During the forum’s “Sélection Pionnière Europe” (“European Pioneer Selection”) session, Macau’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) held in-depth discussions with top European buyers, e-commerce platforms, and brand agents on strategies for overseas expansion, the statement said, adding that a Macau-themed zone at a pop-up store at the Eiffel Tower showcased local specialties such as pastries, essential oils, liquors, and health products, complemented by live-streaming sessions to engage consumers directly.
The event produced encouraging results, according to the statement, with Macau brands establishing new cooperation intentions and gaining exposure in the European market. DSEDT said that it will continue leveraging Macau’s connectivity advantages to support national development strategies and strengthen its role as a gateway for international economic collaboration.
