The 12th Oxfam TowerRun took place yesterday at Macau Tower in Nam Van, drawing more than 400 athletes and volunteers to one of Macau’s iconic landmarks in support of Oxfam’s poverty alleviation initiatives for left-behind children in the Chinese mainland.

According to a statement from Oxfam yesterday, the annual charity race featured a full race (61 floors), half race (31 floors), and a team relay challenge, which attracted over 40 local and visiting athletes, including the world’s top-ranked towerrunners.

Oxfam Hong Kong Director General Henry Tang Chi-fai thanked the contestants and partners, and noted that this year’s theme, “Every Mind Counts, Every Step Transformed Lives,” aimed to highlight the transformative power of each participant’s contribution.

Japan’s Ryoji Watanabe won the 61-floor Elite Individual Full Race, while Team PUMA won the team relay challenge.

Moreover, the statement added that Oxfam Ambassadors – Towerrunning World No.1,  Malaysia’s Soh Wai Ching, and local trail runner Vivi Cheung – also took part in the races, while celebrity runner James Ng made his debut, urging continued public support for the cause.

Recognised by both the Towerrunning World Association (TWA) and the Asia-Pacific Vertical Marathon Association, the Oxfam TowerRun remains a signature charity sporting event in Macau, the statement said, adding that the event combined athletic challenge, community engagement, and compassion through the spirit of “spreading love through sports.”
