The large-scale Halloween Albergue SCM will again be hosted this weekend, marking its 11th edition and featuring themed activities for the local community.
CAC - Círculo dos Amigos da Cultura de Macau (“Circle of the Friends of Macau’s Culture”) and Albergue SCM have so far held 10 well-received celebrations from 2013 to 2024, according to a CAC statement on Monday.
Taking on the theme of “Phantom Feast”, the free-admission event will again see Halloween decorations throughout Albergue SCM*, as well as makeup booths, clown performances and the “Cockroach Haunted House” challenge for all ages.
Other activities slated for this weekend include the “Albergue SCM - Let’s Trick or Treat” and “Albergue SCM Halloween Costume Contest”. The former will have children aged between five and 12, accompanied by an adult, embark on a search for “hidden treasures” along Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro (瘋慊閨眷) from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. One can register for the free event on https://forms.gle/HvpgyhoYmKsWPEUz8
The costume contest, meanwhile, will be held from Saturday through October 28, with the statement noting that participants can take a picture of themselves in their Halloween outfit while inside Albergue SCM and upload it on a designated post and comment “Watch me go into spooky mode!”, with more details on https://www.facebook.com/CACMacau/.
More information can be found on the CAC Facebook page, enquiries can also be made on 2852 2550 or 2852 3205, as well as through amigoscultura@gmail.com.
*Albergue is Portuguese for “hospice”. SCM stands for Santa Casa da Misericórdia (“Holy House of Mercy”), Macau’s oldest charitable organisation.
