An ad-hoc land use concern group yesterday submitted a petition, addressed to Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On, urging the government not to build a public housing estate on the plot of the abandoned La Scala luxury housing project near the airport and the city’s solid waste incineration plant because any area near such a plant was not suitable for human habitation.
The group said that residents living close to this kind of facilities were facing a higher risk of developing cancer.Chui last year proposed building 8,000 public housing units on the ex-La Scala plot.
