Macau GDP rises 8 pct in 3Q

     Macau’s gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 8.0 percent year-on-year in real terms in the third quarter, according to preliminary figures released by the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) today.
Third-quarter GDP rose to 103.86 billion patacas (US$12.97 billion), reaching 92.6 percent of the one in the same period of pre-COVID-19 year of 2019.
Macau’s first COVID-19 case was reported in January 2020. The pandemic severely affected the local economy for three consecutive years. 
According to the bureau, total exports of services grew by 10.5 percent year-on-year in real terms in the third quarter, fuelled by a 13.6 percent rise in visitor arrivals.
In the first three quarters, according to the preliminary figures, GDP increased by 4.2 percent year-on-year in real terms to 301.33 billion patacas. 
Revised GDP figures for the third quarter and first three quarters will be released on November 14, according to today’s DSEC statement.
