The government is proposing to set up two industrial parks, located separately from each other, for its planned Macau Science and Technology Research and Development Industrial Park project, namely the plot at the bottom of Big Taipa Hill, near the airport, previously earmarked for a sandwich-class housing project, and a plot on the Zone E1 land reclamation area off Taipa’s Pac On district.

The planned Industrial Park is one of the local government’s four future large-scale projects aiming to inject new impetus into Macau’s long-term development, comprising the Macau International Integrated Tourism and Cultural Zone, the Macau Science and Technology Research and Development Industrial Park, the Macau International Aviation Hub for the Pearl River West Bank, and the Macau-Hengqin International University City.

The government started its process on Thursday last week to gather opinions from members of the public until December 26 about its proposal for the planned Macau Science and Technology Research and Development Industrial Park. The Industrial Park’s planning and its ongoing public opinion collection process are being carried out by the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT). The full version of the Industrial Park’s plan, available in Chinese and Portuguese, can be downloaded from the dedicated website for the Industrial Park’s planning (https://www.dsedt.gov.mo/zh_MO/web/public/pg_stipc).

The government has scheduled six sessions to gather opinions from attendees about its plan for the Industrial Park and answer their questions, comprising two sessions for members of the general public and four sessions for representatives from different segments and sectors of civil society.

The two sessions for the general public will be held on Wednesday this week and December 14 at the Services Platform Complex for Commercial and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (aka Forum Macao Complex).

The first two sessions for different segments and sectors of civil society were held on Thursday last week.

According to the plan released on Thursday, the first proposed park, located on Avenida Wai Long in Taipa, covers 83,000 square metres, while the second proposed park, on Zone E1, covers 177,000 square metres.

Zone E1, located between Friendship Bridge and Macau Bridge, is still largely undeveloped.

According to the plan, the government is proposing that buildings and other facilities to be constructed in the park on the Wai Long plot will have a gross construction area of 150,000 square metres in total, while those to be constructed in the park on Zone E1 will have a total gross construction area of 500,000 square metres.

The buildings to be constructed in the park on Zone E1, according to the plan, will include a complex used for research and development purposes with a gross construction area of 300,000 square metres.

The two artist’s renditions released by the government last week shows the two planned industrial parks on the Wai Long plot (top) and Zone E1.
