The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that this year’s Winter Flower Show will feature around 30,000 pots of purple flowers in Avenida da Praia in Taipa from December 19 to January 4.

Themed “Fields of Purple Blossoms,” the show will highlight “sail-off”, “expedition” and “integration,” drawing inspiration from Macau’s historical links with Portugal, the statement said, adding that the design aims to lead visitors on “an epic integration journey,” using plants such as lavender, Salvia superba, Chinese larkspur, and lupins.

The statement noted that the purple palette is meant to create a sensory experience that reflects the coexistence of Chinese and Western cultures; and in order to complement the floral displays, the bureau has arranged exhibitions and activities including “Flower Show Planting for Kids,” an image-and-text showcase about the featured flowers, and a series of themed workshops on December 20, 21, 24, and 25.

Registration for the workshops opened on Monday through the Macao One Account app and at IAM service centres.

The bureau said in the statement that registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and may close once all places are filled. The statement added that the organiser also reserves the right to cancel or postpone activities if there are insufficient participants or poor weather, and urges participants to keep their receipts for any rearrangements.

The bureau encouraged locals and tourists alike to check schedule details and workshop availability on the IAM website (www.iam.gov.mo) or the Macao Nature website (https://nature.iam.gov.mo), or to call 2833 7676 or 2888 0087 for enquiries.
