Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai met with President Xi Jinping in Beijing to report on the overall development situation in Macau, the work of the Special Administrative Region government over the past year, and the priorities for governance in the coming year, the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) said in a statement late last night.
According to the statement, “Sam also attentively listened to President Xi’s important remarks and instructions. Premier Li Qiang and relevant central leaders were also present to hear the report.
“He sincerely thanked President Xi for the full recognition of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) government’s work and for providing valuable guidance and important instructions.
“The MSAR government will earnestly study, comprehend, and resolutely implement these directives, integrating President Xi’s important instructions into next year’s governance agenda, and is committed to continually advancing the development of various undertakings in Macau.
“Sam stated that this year marks the beginning of the sixth government’s term in the MSAR.
“The government will unite and lead all sectors of society to deeply implement the spirit of President Xi’s important speech delivered during the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland.
“It will comprehensively and accurately uphold the “One Country, Two Systems” policy, firmly safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests, and effectively respect and maintain the central government’s comprehensive governing authority, while correctly exercising a high degree of autonomy in accordance with the law.
“The principle of ‘patriots governing Macau’ has been fully implemented, resulting in the successful establishment of the new Legislative Assembly.
“The administrative leadership system is functioning smoothly, actively promoting public administrative reform.
“For the first time, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau jointly hosted the 15th National Games.
“The social environment in Macau remains harmonious and stable, with steady progress in economic and social development.
“Efforts are focused on building the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone and increasing participation in the Greater Bay Area’s development to achieve greater results in the appropriate diversification of Macau’s economy.”
The statement also said that Sam “sincerely thanked President Xi and the central authorities for their recognition and guidance of the MSAR government’s work.
“In the new year, the MSAR government will deeply implement President Xi’s valuable guidance and important directives, and, under the guidance of the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee, closely align with the national 15th Five-Year Plan to formulate and implement the MSAR’s “3rd Five-Year Plan,” focusing on promoting appropriate economic diversification and accelerating construction in Hengqin, creating broader development space for Macau.”
