1st time Macau to be represented

Galaxy Macau’s Daniel Chio Ka Kin and Safa Rodas from City of Dreams (COD) have been chosen to join the Young Chefs Programme (YCP), with the two chefs, aged 30 and 33 respectively, going to represent Macau among chefs from around the world.

An initiative of the Rome-based Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations and coordinated by the World Food Forum (WFF), a total of 10 young chefs from around the world are routinely chosen for the programme, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) noted in a Thursday statement, marking the first time that Macau will be represented.

The statement said that the programme educates chefs aged 18 to 35 to “become advocates of sustainable practices” while aiming to empower them to “play a leading role in transforming agrifood systems through culinary practices in their communities”.

Participants will engage in online masterclasses led by FAO and partner experts on nutrition, food safety, and advocacy, among others, the statement said. They’ll also be matched with mentors from the World Association of Chefs’ Societies to develop community projects that enhance nutrition, promote sustainable consumption, and strengthen food security and biodiversity, the statement added. Chefs can also present their results at the WFF flagship event in October.

“The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) congratulates the two chefs, believing their participation in the programme is set to further amplify Macau’s efforts to develop as a Creative City of Gastronomy”, according to the statement.

The statement did not elaborate on the programme’s timing and venue.
