Macau can expect to see mild and humid weather conditions during the Spring Festival, with temperatures on the rise since Saturday and forecast to reach around 26 degrees Celsius today, (Chinese New Year’s Eve), according to a statement by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) on Friday.
According to the local observatory, the Chinese New Year (CNY) weather will be influenced by a warm and humid air current brought by a weak ridge of high pressure, leading to higher daytime temperatures over the coming days.
The statement noted that the maximum temperature today could reach about 26 degrees Celsius, close to the historical record of 26.2°C recorded since 1952.
Relative humidity during mornings and nights may reach or even exceed 99 percent, with mist or fog expected, according to the statement.
Due to reduced visibility, drivers are advised to remain alert and drive carefully, the statement noted.
According to the statement, the observatory forecast that a northeast monsoon will arrive tomorrow, the first day of the Chinese New Year (CNY), bringing light drizzle at first, followed by stronger winds and a slight drop in temperature.
From the second day of the Year of the Horse, the weather is predicted to become drier, with mostly cloudy skies and occasional sunny intervals, the bureau said. Residents are advised to pay attention to weather changes and dress appropriately for outdoor activities.
