Sands China says in clarification of The Macau Post Daily article entitled “Gaming operators reduce plastic footprint, ditching straws”, published on Friday, that it has stopped using single-use plastic only at its “self-owned outlets”, in response to a photo taken on Thursday and published with the article showing a container of plastic straws on a food court counter at Sands Cotai Central.

The gaming operator on Wednesday said in a statement that it “has discontinued its use of plastic straws at all its properties, in an effort to reduce the consumption of single-use plastics.”

In an e-mail to The Macau Post Daily on Friday, Sands China said it would like to clarify that “the company has discontinued the usage of plastic straws for all self-owned outlets which eliminates the use of 2.2 million straws per year.”

The statement added, “This does not include independent operators in our food courts and leased restaurants.”
