Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac said yesterday the government aimed to start the legislative process of amending a decades-old decree-law regulating the government’s procurement of goods and services in the third quarter of next year.
Leong spoke to reporters after attending a closed-door meeting of the legislature’s Follow-up Committee for Public Finance Affairs.Government officials, including Leong and Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo do Rosario, attended yesterday’s meeting to brief the committee on the government’s plan to amend the decree-law on the government’s procurement procedures. The officials also briefed the committee on the investment performance of the government’s financial reserves last year.
Decree-law 122/84/M came into force back in 1985. Commentators and civic leaders in recent years have repeatedly called for amendments to the “outdated” decree-law.
