The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has received a report from food safety authorities in Australia and New Zealand that a South Korean seaweed product is being recalled due to the probable presence of plastic fragments, according to a IAM statement.

The statement pointed out that the affected product is “Pinkfong Seasoned Seaweed Flakes” of the South Korean brand KWANG CHEON, with a net weight of 40 grams, and best before date of 2026.08.20.

The statement noted that the bureau is closely monitoring and following up on the incident, urging the trade to stop supplying and selling the affected product, and advising the public to cease consumption of the problematic batch.

As a precautionary measure, the bureau urges consumers in possession of the implicated product bought online, through a purchasing agent or other channels to stop consuming it immediately, the statement said, adding that any businesses holding the product should immediately cease supplying and selling it and contact the IAM Food Safety Department on 2833 8181.
