Integrated resort operator Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and the Macau Special Olympics (MSO) co-hosted the one-day “GEG Macau Special Olympics Inclusive Table Tennis Fun Day 2026” yesterday, attracting nearly 1,000 participants and promoting inclusiveness through sports.

Held at integrated resort Galaxy Macau in Cotai, the event marked the 16th consecutive year of collaboration between GEG and MSO. This year’s edition also celebrated the centenary of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), in conjunction with the start of today’s ITTF Men’s and Women’s World Cup Macao 2026.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, ITTF Event Director Bart Vermoesen said the event reflects the federation’s mission of making table tennis accessible to all. Meanwhile, MSO National Director Hetzer Siu Yu Hong highlighted the importance of sport in fostering equality and community cohesion, while GEG Director of Corporate Affairs Buddy Lam Chi Seng emphasised the company’s long-term commitment to integrating sport with community initiatives to promote inclusion.

The Fun Day featured a range of activities, including inclusive table tennis matches, interactive game booths, and the newly introduced “Caregivers Challenge”, encouraging participation from families of individuals with special needs.

According to a statement by GEG yesterday, members of the GEG Staff Social Club also partnered with MSO athletes in “Inclusive Doubles”, striving to reinforce teamwork and mutual support. In the lead-up to the event, inclusion workshops were held in local schools, engaging students in activities that promote empathy and understanding, the statement said.

The initiative aims to demonstrate how sport can serve as a platform for inclusiveness and community engagement, the statement said, adding that it will continue to support diverse sporting activities and partnerships to promote a more inclusive and cohesive society in Macau.
