In a statement issued by the Sports Bureau (ID) on Sunday, Denmark’s Jeppe Borch claimed the title at the 2026 World Match Racing Tour – Macao Match Cup, which concluded that day.

Organised by the bureau and Ursa Major Sailing Event Management, co-organised by the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) and the Macau Sailing Association, and held in partnership with the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT), the five-day competition took place in Macau for the second consecutive year. The competitors raced in Macau’s coastal waters between the Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge (commonly known as “old bridge”) and Sai Van Bridge.

The event saw top international sailors compete in waters off Macau, the statement underlined. In the semi-finals, Borch garnered a dominant 3-0 victory over Sweden’s Johnie Berntsson, while fellow Swede Oscar Engström edged past the United States’ Christian Prendergast with a 3-2 scoreline in a closely fought contest.

Meanwhile, Berntsson later secured third place by defeating Prendergast 2-1 in the “petite final”*, the statement noted.

The championship race featured Borch against Engström, with the Danish skipper ultimately prevailing 3-2 in a tight and competitive final to lift the trophy.

An award ceremony was held after the races, attended by Macau Sports Bureau Acting President See Lei Si Leng and representatives from the event organisers and sailing bodies, including WMRT Executive Director James Pleasance, Macau Sailing Association Vice Chairman Li Yue, and DSAMA Chief Lao Se Keng, the statement concluded.
