Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On supports Legislative Assembly (AL) President Ho Iat Seng’s decision to reject a debate and vote on the draft of an “interpretative law” on the Land Law’s clauses regulating provisional land concessions which lawmaker Gabriel Tong Io Cheng submitted to the legislature last year, according to a statement by the Government Spokesperson’s Office yesterday.

Tong, who heads the Law Faculty of University of Macau (UM), is a government-appointed deputy to the local legislature.

Ho said on Friday that officials of the Legislative Assembly (AL) have listened to the recordings of all the meetings of the legislature’s 1st Standing Committee and plenums about the Land Law, adding the transcripts show that the legislative intent of the law is in line with the standing committee’s conclusion after it had reviewed the government-initiated bill article-by-article. After its approval in its second reading by the legislature and promulgation by the government in 2013, the bill became the Land Law which took effect the following year.
