Integrated resort operator Sands China said in a statement yesterday that it recently donated a total of 1 million patacas to five local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support their efforts in promoting responsible gaming in the community.

Cumulative donations by the company since 2006 have reached nearly 10 million patacas, the statement said.

The statement noted that on March 25, Michael Lee, Sands China vice president of concession administration and casino compliance, presented a cheque to representatives from the Youth Volunteers Association of Macao, Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Service Coordination Office, Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau, Macao Leisure Industry Employees Home, and Bosco Youth Service Network. The event took place at The Venetian Macao in Cotai.

The statement said that the donation will support the five organisations in conducting responsible gaming promotions in the community. Among the initiatives are holding parent-child financial management activities, workshops, short film production, and community promotion days.

Lee was quoted by the statement as saying: “Since 2006, we have donated annually to social service organisations, drawing on community networks to thoroughly implement relevant education, promotions, and training programmes in the community. This support for responsible gaming social service organisations has continued for 21 years, successfully integrating the concept of responsible gaming more broadly and practically into the daily lives of the public”.
