Review by Hou Kong Middle School (Primary Section) Teachers and Students
On the morning of April 2, 2026, the “Acrobatics on Campus” even – a key highlight of the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Acrobatics Art Week” 「粵港澳大灣區雜技藝術週 (Macao Station) – was successfully held at Hou Kong Middle School (Primary Section). Artistes from the Hebei Provincial Acrobatic Troupe (河北省雜技團) presented a spectacular showcase combining performances, artistic sharing, and interactive experiences, drawing continuous rounds of applause and laughter from the audience.
The event was guided by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (中國文學藝術界聯合會), organised by the Hebei Federation of Literary and Art Circles 河北省文學藝術界聯合會 and the Federation of Associations of Cultural Sectors of Macau (澳門文化界聯合總會), and coordinated by several organisations including the Hebei Acrobats Association (河北省雜技家協會) and the Hebei Provincial Acrobatic Troupe Co., Ltd (河北省雜技團演藝有限公司). Hou Kong Middle School (Primary Section) was honoured to be the only school invited to host this exclusive performance during the Art Week’s Macao stop.
The event was hosted by magician Shen Shuang, who served as the Master of Ceremonies. During the programme, she noted that Hou Kong Middle School (Primary Section) has long placed great importance on education in traditional Chinese culture, actively promoting the integration of arts and culture into the school curriculum and even the campus. She highlighted that the school not only incorporates traditional elements such as Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, and martial arts into school curriculum but also organises traditional cultural performances and exchange activities to create a vibrant artistic atmosphere regularly. It is this steadfast commitment to and passion for excellent traditional culture that earned the school unanimous favour from the organisers, making it the sole venue for this special performance.
Before the performances commenced, Vice Principal Chan Pou Sin presented a commemorative souvenir to the Hebei Provincial Acrobatic Troupe as a token of appreciation. During the address, the Vice Principal noted how rare and precious it was to be able to invite such a prestigious troupe to the school. He emphasised that acrobatics requires long-term, rigorous, and disciplined practice; this serves as a meaningful metaphor for the students, encouraging them to apply the same spirit of perseverance and hard work to their own studies.
During the event, the performers from the Hebei Provincial Acrobatic Troupe delivered a series of classic acts, including Celestial Beans (仙人摘豆), Three Immortals Returning to the Cave (三仙歸洞), Ripples: Fan Transformation (漣漪·扇變), Hand Balancing (對手倒立). The exquisite skill and breathtaking manoeuvres garnered gasps of amazement and enthusiastic cheers from the teachers and students. In the sharing segment, artistes briefly explained the principles of magic; during the subsequent interactive session, students from grades one to three eagerly took to the stage to try simple acrobatic moves and magic tricks under the artists’ guidance.
The school stated that the activity allowed students to experience the unique charm of Hebei acrobatics – known as the “hometown of Chinese acrobatics and the cradle of world acrobatics” (中國雜技的故鄉, 世界雜技的搖籃) – firsthand, deepening their understanding and identification with China’s excellent traditional culture.
