The 4-day Macau International Comedy Festival to be co-hosted by Beijing Fun Age Entertainment Co., Ltd. (known as Kaixin Mahua or Mahua FunAge) and Beijing Damai Culture Media Development Co., Ltd. simultaneously in Macau and Hengqin between next Thursday and Sunday, has invited Michelle Yeoh (楊紫瓊), the first Chinese actress to win an Oscar, as their mystery guest, Cheng Le’er, assistant president and CFO of Mahua FunAge, said in Macau earlier this week.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) in Nape, Cheng said that the initiative aimed to promote the future development of the comedy industry in Macau.

Michelle Yeoh Choo Kheng Todt is a Malaysian-Chinese actress, Yeoh is the first Malaysian artist to be conferred the title of Dato* and the first Chinese artist to be conferred the title of Tan Sri.

According to Cheng, the key highlights of this year’s festival are a showcase performance by 20 outstanding participants in the Macau Cultural Affairs Bureau’s (IC) “Youth Actor Training Programme.” These participants will also have the chance to be “discovered” by Chinese stars Shen Teng and Ma Li and subsequently signed by Mahua FunAge, Cheng said.

According to DeepSeek, Shen Teng and Ma Li are a celebrated Chinese comedic actor duo, best known for their long-running partnership in sketch comedy, film, and theatre. They are the core members of the Mahua FunAge; their on-screen chemistry, often portraying bickering couples or hapless partners, has made them one of China’s most beloved comedy pairs.

Cheng also said that an event to be set up at Nam Van Lake, named “Park of Joy”, features an immersive lakeside music show inspired by Macau’s four-century history of cultural exchange between East and West, adding that, during the daytime, the lakeside area will offer interactive activities with historical figures, band performances, and more.

* Dato’ and Tan Sri are titles of the Malaysian honours system. Dato’ is a title conferred by a State Ruler or Governor.
