Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs announced in a statement yesterday that its officers seized 5.51 kg of silver granules hidden in a jump starter power box at Hengqin checkpoint last Wednesday.
According to the statement, on that day, customs officers, while inspecting the incoming passenger vehicle lane, noticed an anomaly through the X-ray image of a vehicle arriving from Macau, intercepting it for further inspection.
Upon inspection, the statement said, the officers discovered five packages of silver granules, weighing a total of 5.51 kg*, concealed in a jump starter power box located in the front passenger area of the vehicle.
In the statement, Gongbei Customs reminded the public that concealing goods to evade duties constitutes smuggling. Under mainland regulations, individuals found guilty of such acts face strict penalties, and serious cases will result in criminal prosecution.
