The 42nd issue of the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s “Books and the City” newsletter has been published, offering new highlights for readers to explore across its different sections.

With 3,000 free physical copies available, along with a digital version, this edition is themed “Macao Just Read” and coincides with the recent Regulation to Promote Public Reading introduced in February this year, as noted in the newsletter’s introduction.

Among this issue’s highlights are delving into the reading promotion efforts of IC’s Public Library, including the “Ten-minute Read” campaign. The statement said that it also garners insights from a “seasoned reading advocate”, a local bookshop representatives, and an academic library representative, all giving their thoughts on the state of Macau’s reading promotion as well as inviting readers to explore local reading venues, according to the newsletter.

Other highlights are a review of the “Macao Reading Festival 2025” in the “Library Handbook” section; the “Author’s Say” section spotlighting the trilingual “Macau’s Historical Witness” co-authored by husband and wife Christopher Chu and Maggie Hoi Pui Man; and the “New Launchings” section, which features 10 trilingual (Chinese, Portuguese and English) book reviews, along with book and magazine recommendations, according to the statement.
