Panellists at a forum held by the office of the Macau General Union of Neighbourhood Associations (Kai Fong) for the northern district urged the government yesterday to build sports, recreational facilities and a “village of schools” on the plot of land currently leased by Macau Yat Yuen Canidrome Co. Ltd. for its controversial greyhound races.
The government announced in July last year that the company will have to shut down the racetrack within two years. However, the government has also said that the company can continue operating dog races if it finds a suitable plot of land elsewhere.
According to a media report in January, Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said the government would consider building social, cultural, sports and recreational facilities on the plot. He also said the government would not allow hotels and casinos to be built there.
Panellists attend an open-air forum on the future use of the plot of land currently leased by Macau Yat Yuen Canidrome Co. Ltd. outside the headquarters of Kai Fong’s Fai Chi Kei District Welfare and Mutual Help Association.
