The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement on Friday that Macau recently won Asia’s Best Luxury Destination award at the LUXE Asia 2026 award ceremony in Shanghai

The statement added that the event was tailored for luxury outbound tourism operators from across the Chinese mainland, Southeast Asia and Russia, gathering 38 “well-known international hotel groups and high-end product suppliers from around the world”.

The statement also highlighted that, according to the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC), Russian visitor arrivals “surged” year on year by 84.5 percent in the first quarter of this year, while over 50 percent were young and middle-aged travellers aged between 25 and 44, which the statement described as “affluent consumers”.

MGTO then supported the “Design Travel Tradeshow Macao 2026” organised in Macau, which brought together 60 luxury consumers from Russia and about 120 local and overseas tourism businesses. MGTO also arranged Russian-speaking tour guides, to give participants an insight into Macau’s community resources tailored to Russian luxury visitors.

Meanwhile, the statement added that the 12th Destination Wedding Planners Congress (DWP Congress) was convened in Macau for the first time in April, with MGTO as a supporting partner. The event engaged over 300 wedding planners and hoteliers from over 70 countries worldwide, the statement said, with MGTO engaging in and arranging various activities.
