Health Bureau (SSM) Director Lei Chin Ion said yesterday the government was aware of the fact that some residents were wrongly calling themselves medical professionals who can help mothers stimulate the production of breast milk. He said that they are not licensed and that they would be fined if found to have provided any medical services.

Lei made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a breastfeeding promotion event organised by the Macau Breastfeeding Association, at the Luso-Chinese Vocational and Technical School in Areia Preta district.

According to Lei, those who call themselves medical professionals providing breast milk stimulation services usually only have taken short courses on the benefits of breastfeeding to a child’s development and how to help mothers stimulate the production of breast milk.
