Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) officials underlined yesterday that the month-long 15th Food Safety Publicity Week is being held this month in alignment with Sunday’s World Food Safety Day, featuring forums, seminars, community events, and thematic courses.
The officials made the remarks during a closed-door meeting with members of the government-appointed Central District Community Service Consultative Council at the Patane Municipal Market Complex (沙梨頭街市市政綜合大樓).
Briefing reporters after yesterday’s meeting, Chang Ka Wa, a deputy convenor of the government-appointed council, noted that the “Technological Supervision of Food Safety Progress” forum will take place tomorrow at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, gathering representatives from the China National Centre for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA), Guangdong Administration for Market Regulation and Centre for Food Safety of Hong Kong to discuss topics such as technology-driven food safety, regional food monitoring processes, and sector development opportunities, with the aim of refining follow-up regulatory measures.
Meanwhile, a “Safe and Healthy Food” thematic talk will be held this Saturday at the Municipal Market Complex of Patane for members of the general public. Citizens can attend the talk free of charge by registering via the “Macao One Account” platform, aiming to educate the public on food safety basics, common summer dietary misconceptions, and nutritional knowledge, Chang said.
Fellow council member Chan Hio Teng added that the “Food Safety and Cool Summer” campaign will be held at Nova Mall in Taipa from June 12 to 18, featuring booth games, guided food safety exhibition tours, parent-child colouring activities, and puzzles, with the aim of reminding the public to take proper food safety precautions during summer.
Meanwhile, the bureau has launched multilingual food safety awareness materials (available on the official website), Chan said.
Chan added that the bureau, in collaboration with food delivery platforms, conducts quarterly specialised training for delivery riders. The training is focused on standardising the use of meal containers and strictly controlling delivery duration and temperature maintenance.
Furthermore, the bureau will soon launch an electronic food safety inspection system. This digital upgrade will replace on-site paper forms, centralise inspection data within an internal platform, and enable seamless data sharing across various bureaus, Chan said.
