The government has set up a mental health service team, with the aim of enabling better coordination of resources for mental health support provided by social organisations and encouraging those unwilling to seek help to look for assistance and receive treatment, the Northern Districts Community Service Consultative Council said yesterday.

Yesterday’s focus of the government-appointed council’s regular meeting was on how the government is supporting residents who need possible treatment for mental health problems. The council asked a psychiatrist from the public Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre and an official from the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) to attend the meeting.

The council’s deputy convenor, Leong In Pong, and council member Chio Lan Ieng briefed reporters after the closed-door meeting at the Government Service Centre in Areia Preta.
