Macao Int’l Children’s Film Festival starts July 10

The “2026 Macao International Children’s Film Festival” will kick off on July 10 and last through July 26, with a variety of films to be screened at Cinematheque•Passion, among other venues including open-air ones, while workshops and other activities are also in the programme. 

In all, there will be close to 30 films scheduled to be screened throughout the festival’s over a fortnight’s run, this year themed “Growth, Communication, and Heritage”. In a recent statement by the cinema, under the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), it was noted that the films comprise internationally acclaimed productions that are also engaging and educational. 

Kicking off the festival are the Hong Kong animation classic “My Life as McDull” and Macau animated short “On His Back”. The festival will meanwhile close with Hong Kong animator Toe Yuen’s “A Mighty Adventure”, the statement said, marking its Macau premiere. Yuen also directed “My Life as McDull’.

Other films to be shown in line with the theme are “A Minecraft Movie”, “Hoppers”, and “Freaky Friday”. The “Films Lead the Way: Enter the Cinema - Special School Screenings” section especially for teachers and students will meanwhile include the films “Encanto”, “Sherlock Holmes and the Great Escape”, and “The Sheep Detectives”, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Cantonese-dubbed version of Nobody and the Academy Award-winning Best Animated Feature “Flow” will be shown during the “Where Culture Flourishes, Happiness Happens – Open-air Screenings” in Iao Hon Market Park, the statement said. 

Venues like the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), Livraria Portuguesa, Patane Library, and Pin-to Livros & Musica will meanwhile play host to screenings of “Coco”, “Elio”, and “Life, Animated”, the statement said, each also featuring extension activities
