Two mainland men were nabbed on Sunday for allegedly breaking into a local temple in 2015 and stealing 70,000 patacas from donation boxes, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said yesterday.

According to the spokesperson, the two suspects, both surnamed Qin, are from the same area in the mainland. The spokesperson did not elaborate. One of the suspects is 33 years old while the other is aged 35. The temple is in Avenida do Almirante Lacerda, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said the temple’s staff asked the police for help on December 15, 2015 as the money from four donation boxes in the temple had been stolen. After investigating, the police identified the suspects, the spokesperson said, adding the duo had returned to the mainland via the Barrier Gate checkpoint at about 7 a.m. the same day.
