Cheong stated that, during the ceremony marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China on July 1, President Xi delivered an important speech that comprehensively reviewed and outlined the CPC’s journey of struggle and its excellent qualities. President Xi called upon all sectors to remain confident and to continue their efforts on this new journey, striving unremittingly for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Cheong urged all members of the Legislative Assembly to study President Xi’s important speech earnestly and to implement its spirit. He emphasised the need to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests; to participate in politics and debate affairs from the perspective of the overall interests of the nation and the MSAR; and to strictly implement the principle of "patriots governing Macao." He further called for the conscious upholding of the MSAR’s executive-led principle, the promotion of positive interaction between the executive and legislative branches, and the maintenance of close communication with the MSAR Government while fulfilling legislative and supervisory functions, to ensure that there is no shortfall in support for the Government, and no usurpation in the Government’s oversight."
He also encouraged the lawmakers to connect widely with all sectors of civil society, to take the initiative in collecting and reflecting the opinions of residents and industry on government administration, and to fully leverage the legislature’s role as a bridge between the government and the public. He highlighted that legislative and supervisory work should focus on safeguarding national security, optimising the business environment, promoting appropriate economic diversification, advancing public administration reform, and strengthening the alignment of regulations between Macao and Hengqin, thereby making greater contributions to Macao ’s economic and social development and its integration into the nation’s overall development.
The legislators in attendance shared their reflections, expressing their firm support for the leadership of the Communist Party of China and their unwavering commitment to implementing "One Country, Two Systems” principle. They pledged to support the MSAR Government’s administration in accordance with the law, to prioritise the safeguarding of national sovereignty and security, to implement the "patriots governing Macao " principle, and to continuously strengthen the foundations of the rule of law in the MSAR. They committed to serving the overall interests of Macao’s development through high-quality legislation and to supporting, through practical action, the MSAR’s alignment with the nation’s "15th Five-Year Plan," thereby assisting Macao in better integrating into and serving the nation’s overall development.
The legislators also pledged to thoroughly follow President Xi’s important discourse on “relying closely on the people to create historical achievements” by keeping close contact with local communities to hear public opinion and focusing on matters of livelihood, improve residents’ well-being, and continuously enhance their sense of gain, happiness, and security.
