Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs announced in a statement yesterday that its officers seized 600 slimming shots at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (ZHMB) Zhuhai Port (checkpoint) recently.

According to the statement, while conducting a routine inspection at the checkpoint, customs officers noticed a male traveller who was entering Zhuhai through the “green channel” and attempting to evade their control so they stopped him for inspection.

Upon further inspection, customs officers discovered 20 packages of weight loss injections, totalling 600 vials, concealed and wrapped around his waist, abdomen, and calves, the statement said, adding that upon verification, the traveller admitted to having received a “carrying fee” to transport the items on behalf of someone else.

On June 17, the items were identified by the Technical Centre of Gongbei Customs as “tirzepatide”.

According to DeepSeek, tirzepatide is a synthetic peptide medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management.

Zhuhai’s Customs reminded the public that injectable preparations are classified as Category III medical devices. Under the Regulations on the Supervision and Administration of Medical Devices, imported medical devices must obtain a registration certificate and bear Chinese labelling and instruction manuals that comply with relevant regulations and mandatory standards. Devices without the required certificates may not be imported.
