Julia Lam’s Hua of Casa exhibition presents paintings at Mandarin Oriental, Macau

Local artist Julia Lam Tsz Kwan’s latest exhibition launched last night at the Mandarin Oriental, Macau  in Nape, where paintings in her signature art style are being showcased in the hotel lobby for a total of six months.

A collaboration between the hotel and artist, the exhibition is titled “Hua of Casa” and features Macau’s landmarks, all created with Lam reflecting on Macau’s ongoing dialogue between heritage and progress through her works, as noted in a statement provided at yesterday’s opening.

The statement highlighted: “Casa, the Portuguese word for “home”, embodies the spirit of Macau – a cosmopolitan city where Eastern and Western cultures converge”

The pieces on display were created using a multidisciplinary approach, among which were painting, spray techniques, printmaking, installation and gold-leaf decoration, as noted in the statement.

Highlighting the artist, Lam’s works have been exhibited in places such as France, Italy, Japan, Portugal and Singapore, as well as Macau, Hong Kong, China’s Taiwan region and the Chinese mainland.

Yesterday’s opening ceremony was attended by members from the local arts and culture scene. Among the officiating guests were Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong and Macao Museum of Art (MAM) Acting Director Dora Loi.
