The Typhoon Signal No.8 will be lowered to the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.3 at 7 p.m. the Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) announced this afternoon.
According to an SMG statement, Typhoon Nangka was located about 500 km southwest of Macau at 5 p.m. The statement stressed that Nangka was moving away from Macau.
According to a number of statements by the Civil Protection Operations Centre this afternoon, no injuries and only minor damage was reported during the typhoon.
The Signal No.8 was hoisted at 7:30 a.m. when it replaced the Signal No.3 that had been issued yesterday.
Typhoon Nangka coincided with a monsoon.
The storm surge warning was cancelled at 10 a.m.
Hong Kong's observatory said in a statement this afternoon that "Nangka is about to make landfall at Hainan Island," adding "the rain bands associated with Nangka are affecting the Pearl River Estuary. There will be swells and very rough seas."
