Creative Macau – Centre for Creative Industries (CCI) in Nape has launched “Dark Shards”, a solo exhibition by local multidisciplinary artist Vincent Cheang Chi-Tat, showcasing a new series of visual artworks and original design products inspired by everyday life, music and personal reflection.
The exhibition, which opened yesterday, features a collection of visual artworks alongside original design products created by the artist.
According to a statement by the gallery yesterday, “Dark Shards” explores how fragments of everyday experiences and fleeting inspirations can be transformed into artistic expression. The statement describes the works as “unspoken thoughts from busy days and inspirations stirred by radio tunes”, with Cheang acting as “a collector and conductor of the night” who reorganises scattered moments into meaningful visual narratives, adding that the concept of “shards” symbolises renewal, suggesting that fragmentation can become the starting point for rebirth and new perspectives.
Cheang, who is also a musician, balances commercial design work with personal artistic practice, according to the statement.
The statement noted that Cheang’s experience in hosting a five-day-a-week radio programme has influenced his visual art, giving it a distinctive sense of rhythm and musicality. The artist has previously participated in exhibitions such as Highway Star (2018), Parallel Universe (2022), When Tat Chi Meets Chi Tat (2023), and Art Macao: Synchronicity (2023).
Running through August 22, the exhibits are on display at the gallery on the ground floor of the Macao Cultural Centre (CCM) in Nape with free admission between Monday and Saturday, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., offering visitors the opportunity to explore Cheang’s latest works that combine visual art, music and design through a personal and multidisciplinary creative approach.
