Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs announced in a statement yesterday that its officers seized four cannabis cigarettes at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Zhuhai Port (checkpoint) on July 25.
According to the statement, on that day, customs officers stopped and inspected a Guangdong-Hong Kong dual-plate vehicle. While talking to the driver, officers noticed that he was unusually nervous, the statement said, adding that upon further inspection, they discovered four suspected cannabis cigarettes in a tub of chewing gum hidden inside the driver’s side centre console armrest box.
The net weight of the dried plant material was 1.1 grammes, and one of the cigarettes showed signs of having been burnt, according to the statement. Subsequent testing by a professional institution confirmed that all four cigarettes contained cannabis components, the statement said.
Gongbei Customs reminded the public that drugs refer to opium, heroin, methamphetamine (crystal meth, aka ice), morphine, cannabis, cocaine, and other narcotics and psychotropic substances regulated by the state that cause addiction. Regardless of the quantity involved, the smuggling, trafficking, transportation, or manufacturing of narcotics is subject to criminal liability and criminal penalties.
