A hornets’ nest was found on the external wall of the 21st floor of the Transport Bureau Building yesterday afternoon, and firefighters carried out an operation to hose it down, lasting 1.5 hours, according to a statement by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) yesterday.

No one was injured in the incident.

In addition to the Transport Bureau, the building also houses the Lands and Urban Construction Bureau (DSSCU).

The Transport Bureau Building is located opposite the headquarters of local power utility CEM on Estrada de D. Maria II (馬交石炮台馬路).

The Fire Services Bureau (CB) received reports at around 3:15 p.m. about the hornets’ nest. Firefighters extended the aerial ladder and used a high-powered water jet to take down the nest eventually.

The operation was carried out in a section of Estrada da Bela Vista (新雅馬路), where the entrance and exit of a public carpark, which occupies the first to fourth floor of the Transport Bureau Building, is located.

The operation was carried out until 4:45 p.m., during which this section of Estrada da Bela Vista was closed to traffic.

The nest measured 15 x 10 centimetres.
