SJM Resorts presented scholarships to 36 “outstanding children of employees for their academic excellence” during a ceremony at Grand Lisboa last week, the integrated resort operator said in a statement last Tuesday, marking the 22nd year of the scholarship programme.
Each scholarship is worth 20,000 patacas, according to the statement. The scholarships were presented during last week’s 22nd SJM Scholarship Award Ceremony at Grand Lisboa, with 10 new recipients this year.
The new scholarship recipients, the statement said, have chosen to pursue higher education in Macau, Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, taking on disciplines spanning technology and innovation, healthcare, and financial services.
In her speech, SJM Managing Director Daisy Ho Chiu Fung, as summarised by the statement, encouraged students to “stay curious, work hard, and strive for excellence, turning their knowledge into meaningful action”, as well as “called on the students to give back to their community after graduation, and to play their part in Macau’s continued prosperity and the nation’s development”.
According to the statement, scholarship recipient Cheong Iok In expressed gratitude for the recognition. He said he will pursue dental studies in Hong Kong and hopes to return to Macau to apply what he has learnt.
The statement added that the SJM Scholarship is the “longest-running and most far-reaching educational support programme among Macau’s integrated tourism and leisure enterprises”, having benefitted hundreds of families across Macau.
