The Urban Planning and Construction Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin announced in a statement yesterday that Macau residents may rent farmland in the adjacent island starting today.
According to the statement, in order to further deepen the integrated development of “Macau + Hengqin” and to improve municipal and leisure facilities shared by residents of both places, as well as to expand diversified recreational spaces, the authorities will officially open the “Peach Blossom Spring Farm” at the end of September.
The farm is designed to combine agricultural cultivation, fruit and vegetable picking, nature education, and family-friendly entertainment into one integrated experience, the statement said.
The farm is located approximately three kilometres from the Hengqin Port (checkpoint) and covers an area of about 20,000 square metres, the statement said, adding that the site is divided into several zones, including areas for agricultural cultivation, fruit and vegetable picking, interactive sandpits, ecological leisure, and educational study tours.
It is also equipped with supporting facilities such as a carpark, an indoor multi-purpose hall, a shared tool room, showers, and toilets, catering to the diverse needs of families with children, group study tours, and residents’ daily leisure activities, the statement added.
Macau residents interested in renting farmland for cultivation can register through the activity registration section of the Macao One Account platform during the priority application period from today to next Tuesday (September 1), the statement said, adding that the registration process follows a “register first, ballot later, then pay” procedure. Ballot results and payment instructions will be announced from next Thursday onwards via the Macao One Account and by email.
Successful applicants must complete the online payment within the specified timeframe; those who fail to pay by the deadline will be considered to have automatically forfeited their place, according to the statement.
Depending on the size and duration, the tenancy fees range from 200 yuan (250 patacas) to 1,200 yuan (see attached infographic).
Successful tenants will be notified individually regarding the start of cultivation and plot selection arrangements, the statement said.
