The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) has issued the 43rd edition of its “Books and the City” newsletter, this time taking on the theme “Joyful Reading Community”.
There are again 3,000 free copies available at IC’s libraries, along with several bookshops and other art facilities, while one can also read the trilingual newsletter online.
Among this issues’ highlights are reflecting on the “Mobile Library” outreach service, along with other services provided by the Public Library such as its “10-Minute Reading” initiative that took books to public settings from hospitals to sports venues to encourage reading. It also highlights the “Book Delivery Service”.
This edition’s “Library Handbook” section meanwhile reviews the “Macao Just Read · National Reading Campaign Week 2026” in April, along with venue reservation information, while the “Magnifying Glass” looks at the newly added electronic resources and themed book exhibitions to be held in the second half of the year.
One will also get a glimpse of life in Macau according to Macanese* writer Henrique de Senna Fernandes’ (1923-2010) 1998 work “Mong-Há”, as introduced by the book’s translator Iok Lan Fu Barreto.
Meanwhile, trilingual book reviews, along with new book and magazine recommendations, are featured in the “New Launch”.
