Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and the Lui Che Woo Family Charitable Foundation will jointly donate 10 million patacas in support of relief and recovery works of Gyirong Port (border checkpoint) in Gyirong County, Xigaze, Xizang Autonomous Region, which was recently struck by a severe mudside, the integrated resort operator announced in a statement yesterday.
The donation, remitted with the assistance of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, will be used to “support emergency search and rescue operations, relief supplies, temporary resettlement, medical assistance, and subsequent reconstruction and recovery efforts in the affected communities”, according to the statement.
GEG Chairman Francis Lui Yiu Tung was quoted in the statement as saying that the company extends their sympathies to all those affected, as well as their “highest respect and gratitude to all frontline rescue personnel for their dedication and tireless efforts”.
“In the face of this tragedy, people from all walks of life have come together swiftly to offer support, reflecting the Chinese nation’s enduring spirit of solidarity, mutual assistance, and unity in times of adversity”, Lui added.
Lui also noted that the company hopes that the donation “will provide timely and meaningful assistance to relief and recovery efforts, helping affected communities overcome this difficult time and begin rebuilding their lives.”
Moreover, the statement said that they hope that, with the support of the Central Government, the Xizang Autonomous Regional Government, and all sectors of society, “affected residents will overcome current challenges, rebuild their homes and livelihoods, and restore normalcy as soon as possible”.
