The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a Pakistani Hong Kong man for drug trafficking on Thursday, PJ spokeswoman Leong Sok Man said during a special press conference on Friday.
Leong identified the suspect as a 37-year-old renovation worker surnamed Ha.
According to Leong, based on intelligence analysis, the Judiciary Police identified Ha as being suspected of smuggling drugs from Hong Kong into Macau, and had tracked his movements. On Thursday evening, the Judiciary Police observed Ha entering Macau via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Macao Port (immigration checkpoint), Leong said, adding that officers immediately followed him, intercepting him near the checkpoint for inspection.
PJ officers seized two packets of suspected drugs in Ha’s trouser pocket.
Subsequent testing confirmed the substance to be cocaine, with a total weight of around 52.11 grams, Leong said.
The investigation revealed that Ha had been smuggling drugs from Hong Kong into Macau since last month and selling them to revellers in nightclubs to make a profit.
Ha was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Friday, facing a drug trafficking charge.
