The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a man from the mainland on Tuesday for stabbing his wife with a pair of scissors, requiring the victim to undergo emergency surgery, as he was angry that she had gambled away HK$70,000, PJ spokesman Choi Ian Fai said during a special press conference yesterday.

Choi identified the suspect as a 45-year-old driver surnamed Zhou and his wife as a 44-year-old housewife. The couple have been married for seven years.

According to Choi, Zhou, his wife and their four-year-old daughter came to Macau as tourists on Sunday. The couple, and their daughter, stayed in a residential flat in Avenida 24 de Junho in Nape that a friend of the couple is renting.

This photo taken yesterday in the Judiciary Police (PJ) pressroom shows the pair of scissors that the suspect allegedly used to attack his gambling wife.
