A Public Security Police Force (PSP) spokeswoman confirmed to the Post by phone yesterday that a driver suffered multiple fractures after crashing his lorry.
Speaking to the Post yesterday evening, the spokeswoman said the police received a report at 3:36 p.m. regarding an accident on Estrada Circular Fronteiriça de Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau (港珠澳口岸環形馬路), where a driver had lost control of his lorry and crashed into public property.
According to a statement released by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) at 6:00 p.m. yesterday, the 67-year-old driver was trapped inside the lorry before being freed by the rescue team.
A CB spokesman confirmed to the Post by phone that when firefighters arrived, they found the driver trapped in his seat. The front of the vehicle was severely crushed, requiring hydraulic tools to force open the door.
The police identified the driver as a local resident in his 60s who suffered multiple fractures – including broken right ribcage, pelvis, and right leg – as well as chest contusions. He was rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre (CHSCJ) for emergency treatment.
The cause of the accident remains unknown as the driver was being prepared for surgery yesterday evening so that PSP officers were unable to question him, the spokeswoman said, adding that a breathalyser test could not be conducted.
